Issue 302 – Prolific burglar awaits sentence

A prolific house burglar who committed 105 burglaries in the space of 10 months is due to be sentenced tomorrow, 11th June.

34-year-old Lee Dixon, from Bath, committed burglaries in towns and villages across the whole of the South West, including a handful in the Frome area. He stole jewellery from the homes, particularly gold.
Nicola Caffrey, from Wiltshire Police’s priority crime team told Frome Times, “The 105 burglaries were spread across the Wiltshire constabulary, Avon and Somerset, Thames Valley, Hampshire, and Dorset – all between May 2009 and March 2010.
“He was not known to the police before which is why it took us a relatively long time to find him. As far as we can see, he had not committed any burglaries before May 2009.
“There was no evidence of a drug or gambling addiction. He says he lost his job and wanted to get money to live – to buy the bare necessities. He’s not your normal burglar.”
The police eventually caught Lee Dixon, with the help of forensics and CCTV footage of him after he used stolen Marks & Spencers vouchers in Bath.
Nicola Caffrey said, “The stolen vouchers were used in the Bath store and CCTV footage tracked him to the Podium shopping centre in Bath.”
Lee Dixon was arrested in March this year and is due to be sentenced on 11th June.
