Issue 303 – Top lots for student’s charity auction

A former Frome College student is organising a charity auction, with prizes ranging from a signed Jenson Button cap to a dress donated by fashion designer Pearl Lowe.

Laura Davis, who is raising the money for Childreach International, has organised the online auction as a prelude to her journey to Mount Kilimanjaro, which she is planning on climbing in September.
At 19,332 feet, Kilimanjaro is Africa’s highest mountain. Laura’s six-day trek poses not only the challenge of a physically hard climb and temperatures of -25 degrees, but also the very real possibility of altitude sickness.
A previous Frome College student, Laura is now studying for a neuroscience degree at Cardiff University and is currently doing a placement year for a pharmaceutical company in Reading.
She told the Frome Times, “At the same time as getting valuable work experience I wanted to do something really beneficial which is why I have chosen to raise as much money as possible for a charity called Childreach International.”
In the last nine months, Laura has managed to raise £2,200 through cake sales, coffee mornings, running the Reading Half Mara-thon, and street collections. However, by September when she goes to Tanzania to volunteer with the charity and be sponsored to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, she would love to reach her target of £2,500.
Laura explained, “In order to continue to raise as much money for this fantastic cause I am organising an online Ebay auction with some fantastic lots such as: a golf lesson at Orchardleigh gold course, signed ‘Sean Of The Dead’ and ‘Hot Fuzz’ DVDs, a bungee jump, an exclusive private paintballing day, Bath Theatre Royal tickets, a dress donated by fashion designer Pearl Lowe and much more.”
To view the rest of the lots, you can visit the website at www.childreach-auction.co.uk The auction will run for seven days starting at 7.00pm on Monday 21st until Monday 28th June.
Bidding is simple: 1) Log onto the auction website. 2) Choose the lots you would like to bid on. 3) Enter your highest bid – all of the money goes directly to Childreach. 4) The largest bid for each item at the end of the week will win and should be received within two to five days.
