Issue 310 – Curtain up for Jesus Christ Superstar

With the opening night just days away, on Tuesday 5th October, Frome Amateur Operatic Society (FAOS) is now putting the finishing touches to the forthcoming production of ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’

FAOS say, “We feel very privileged to have secured the licence to perform this Andrew Lloyd Webber/Tim Rice musical as it is seldom made available for amateurs to perform. However to coincide with its 40th anniversary it has been released for a twelve month period and Frome is one of the lucky societies granted permission to perform it.
“The cast for the show is likely to be one of the strongest pieces of theatre we have ever undertaken.”
Interestingly, a number of the cast come from ‘over the border’ in Wiltshire most notably Sam Stevens from Trowbridge, who is no stranger to amateur theatre having appeared with Trowbridge AOS, The Bradfordians, and Devizes Musical Theatre to name but a few, who takes on the daunting role of Judas. Sam states that this is his favourite part to date because it so challenging in song and action.
Joining Sam are Luke Rees-Oliviere from Bradford on Avon as Peter and Chris Anderson from Warminster as Pilate. This is also Luke’s first appearance with the group, having previously appeared with The Bradfordians and Trowbridge AOS. Luke is in the sixth form at St Laurence School in Bradford on Avon.
This is Chris’ fourth production for FAOS having previously played The Plant in Little Shop of Horrors, Teddy in The Full Monty and an ensemble member in Annie. Chris is also a favourite at the Wharf Theatre in Devizes and The Athenaeum Theatre in Warminster.
The show’s award winning director, Phil Courage, is also from Bradford on Avon to complete a very impressive Wiltshire line up.
With other principal performers from Farmborough, Shepton Mallet as well as Frome of course, this really is going to be a regional production, drawing on the very best local talent from a radius of about 15 miles.
If you want to take advantage of seeing this production please call the box office on 01373 462795 to reserve your seats.
