Issue 320 – Original playwriting festival to be held at the Merlin

THE Somerset Fellowship of Drama’s annual Original One-Act Playwriting Festival will be held at the Merlin Theatre, Frome, on Saturday 19th February at 7.00pm.

The three new one-act plays, all comedies, which have been selected from the shortlist are ‘The Tourist Office’ by Alexander Fox, ‘Sinking’ by Carla Dean, and ‘Say Goodbye to Jill, Everybody’ by Morgan Beard. The plays will be performed by established Somerset Fellowship of Drama members.
The author of the best one act play will be announced on the night and will be presented with a cash prize and silver trophy.
The best production will also be given free entry in the County Drama Festival which will be held at the Kings College Theatre, Taunton, during 2nd and 3rd April.
This year’s festival will be adjudicated by the chief executive and founder of Lazy Bee Scripts, Stuart Ardern. The Lazy Bee website, www.lazybeescripts.co.uk, enables new playwrights and authors to have their plays, pantomimes and musicals published online, and Stuart has been associated with the business since its inception in 1998.
Tickets for the festival are £7.50 (£6 concessions) and can be purchased from the Merlin’s box office on 01373 465949.
