Issue 336 – Community welcomes new co-op

FROME’S new Radstock Co-operative store and post office has been overwhelmed with the support that local people have shown to the new store, just a few weeks after opening their doors in the Westway Centre.

Chief Executive of Radstock Co-op, Don Morris said, “We are absolutely delighted with the support we have had and the level of trade in the new store. It has taken us all by surprise and we have been trading above our expectations.
“We have received numerous comments about the store in terms of the range of stock that we are carrying and availability. We have also had very nice comments about the post office, with messages of support and people saying thank you for keeping the post office open.
“We have recruited a number of new Co-op members and if people want to join, which costs just £2 and is refundable, they can pick up information in store or ask a member of staff.”
Customers can also have a dividend card which is a loyalty card whereby they receive a point for every £1 they spend instore. A dividend is paid out twice a year, including a pay out just before Christmas, in the form of a dividend voucher to spend in the store.
Don Morris continued, “We have been so busy that it has been difficult to keep up with demand and we are grateful to customers for their patience while we have been getting things just right. We are all very delighted with the response from Frome to the new store and it bodes really well for the future success of the store.”
Radstock Co-op is a well established Somerset business which has been in existence for over 140 years. The refurbished retail unit in Frome has been transformed into a well-stocked new store with a butchery counter offering an extensive range of locally sourced quality cuts and meat products provided by Penleigh Farm in Westbury.
The Radstock Co-op also has a 1,000 acre dairy farm at Hardington situated on the outskirts of Frome. There is also a new-look four counter position post office where the full range of post office services are provided.
