Council backs extended market plans

FROME Town Council has backed a proposal to extend the town’s existing market, following a public consultation. Members of Frome’s full town council backed the Mendip District Council proposal to extend the market into the Westway development, in front of the library and into Scott Road on Wednesdays and Sundays. The council has set aside  £20,000 from Ear Marked Reserve on developing the market. The proposal is a reprieve for market traders who claim they were never consulted over original plans to move the market into the town centre. The proposal will also see the expansion of the Artisan market into the Market Place on eight Sundays a year.At the meeting of Frome’s full council meeting on Wednesday 28th of March, cllr Claire Hudson commented, “This is the result of real engagement and desire to see these plans work. I think we should invite traders to a meeting and talk about how best to take these plans forward.”Mayor of Frome, cllr Nick White commented, “It’s a report from Mendip District Council that will put more traders into the markets.”Frome Town Council agreed to support the proposal which will run for a trial period of 12 months.
