ON the day thousands of runners took on the London Marathon, a Frome duo took on their own sponsored ‘wheelchair-a-thon’ to raise money for the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance.
Diana Adams came up with the idea to raise money in memory of her husband, Dave Adams. On Sunday she was pushed from her home in Frome to Trudoxhill and back – a distance of around six miles – by friend Stephen Burch.
They took the country lanes from Frome, through Tytherington, and stopped at the White Hart in Trudoxhill for refreshments before starting the return journey.
The pair had already raised around £130 when they set up, and took on the challenge with a collection bucket in tow with the final total raised reaching around £300.
Diana said, “My husband used to support the air ambulance, and had money taken out of his wages every week. He was a wonderful guy, and did everything to help anyone.
“Both myself and Stephen would like to thank everyone who sponsored us for their support and generosity. Special thanks go to the landlord and patrons of the White Hart Inn at Trudoxhill, which was the midway stop off point for the thirsty wheelers.”
Stephen is available to help support any worthy charities or causes, however unusual the challenge might be. He can be contacted on 07414 045710.
