NEVER work with children and/or animals is a maxim in the theatre world, but what about children dressed as animals?
Spellbound, the youth group of the Frome Amateur Operatic Society are rehearsing hard for their forthcoming production of Doctor Dolittle.
The cast of 58 children, half of which are appearing as animals, are proving to be a creative challenge for the wardrobe team with such costumes as seagulls, a seal, cow, parrot, pig, dog, duck, chimp, kitten, fox and of course, a two-headed llama (the story’s famous pushmi-pullyu).
Also being constructed is a large pink sea snail, a task not too onerous for the creator Olly Day, who impressed cast and audiences with his marvellous moving elephant in last year’s performance of ‘Around the World in 80 Days.’
The performances take place in the Memorial Theatre from Thursday 8th – Saturday 10th August at 7.00pm. Tickets are on sale from the box office, Monday – Saturday 9.30am-1.00pm, tel: 01373 462795.
The group says the production will be a delight for all the family.
