FROME volunteers with Greyhound Rescue West of England (GRWE) have good reason to celebrate, as the charity has been recognised with a national award.
Recently GRWE took the title of Animal Charity Team of the Year at the Association of Dogs and Cats Homes’ award ceremony, organised by Petplan.
Frome’s Jan Lake said, “The award is a validation of the great work our charity does.
“We were chosen from thousands of nominees, and the association noted GRWE’s high success rate in rehoming dogs, as well as our good quality post-homing support.
“Everyone at GRWE works tirelessly, but of course it is all worth it when you see lovely dogs going home with their new families.”
GRWE won the award with a team which rehomed 616 greyhounds and lurchers last year but has just one paid employee. Rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming are carried out by volunteers who also raise funding for the independent charity.
