Success is in the title for Frome writer

Local author Trevor Day’s latest book, ‘Success in Academic Writing’, has just been published by Palgrave Macmillan.

Aimed at university students, it builds upon Trevor’s many years of publishing, teaching and working in academia.

Trevor has close links with Frome, having lived in or close to the town for more than 20 years. He used to teach at Frome College and was a founder member of the group that started writing@fromefestival, the literary side of the Frome Festival.

Trevor said, “Publishing has, of course, undergone a revolution in the last 10 years. Young people read fewer books than we used to and much of what they read is online. I used to write two or more books a year. I now write one book every two years or so.”

Today, most of Trevor’s writing involves creating online resources to help university students read, write and study. Trevor added, “I do still love writing books and composing articles for newspapers and magazines whenever I get the chance.”

Trevor’s career began as a marine biologist, before a teaching and research career in colleges and then universities. He now specialises in academic writing and learning development, while continuing to write articles and advising on books about the marine world.

‘Success in Academic Writing’ brings Trevor’s experience from writing non-fiction for many audiences, from children to academics, to focus on the assignments students write. Between 2007 and 2011 Trevor was a Fellow of the Royal Literary Fund at the University of Bath and coached hundreds of students and dozens of staff. He has worked on projects for the Royal Literary Fund ever since, and is a development consultant for the organisation, training professional writers to work with groups of students and staff in universities.

Trevor revealed, “It has been an absolute pleasure for me to merge my love of writing, with working with all kinds of authors, from novelists and poets to journalists and biographers, to inspire young people to write.”

Success brings Trevor’s body of published works to more than 40. ‘Success in Academic Writing’ is available from Hunting Raven bookshop and other good sources.
