Flower Festival’s tribute to the Great War

The Great War Remembered is the theme for this year’s flower festival in St Giles Church, Leigh on Mendip BA3 5QQ, in tribute to those who lived and died during the First World War.

The festival will be open throughout the Bank Holiday weekend Saturday 23rd to Monday 25th August, from 11.00am to 4.30pm.

A highlight of the festival is a concert in the church at 7.30pm on Saturday 23rd.  Flautist Nicola Loten and accompanist Thomas Breeze will be joined this year by guest soloist Hugh Strathern.  Hugh’s career as a professional soloist has included appearances with the award-winning choir Only Men Aloud.  For tickets, call  01373 812889.

In the nearby Memorial Hall an extensive historical display of photographs will focus on the impact of World War I on the village, with a rare opportunity to view parish records.  Home-made refreshments will also be available.
