Frome Carnival 2014 – 20th September

There’s still time to enter the Carnival!

It’s not too late to consider putting an entry into the Frome Carnival for either the afternoon or evening procession on Saturday 20th September.

There are a range of categories for all kinds of entries and a chance to win the Home in Frome trophy for local, Frome-themed entries. Contact the procession secretary Darren Cox on 01373 670188.

The organisers also want people to come and join the fun in the town centre where there will be entertainment from 10am to 2pm. There will be street entertainers, music, circus workshops, face painting and a chance for people to dress up with the theme for this year’s carnival ‘wings’ and join in the fun.

Sign-up a walking float by going to Frome Library at 12noon on carnival day.

Timings of activities and events will be listed on a board outside the library on the day itself.

Message from the Carnival chairman

HERE we are again. A warm welcome to our 2014 carnival.

Last year was one of the best so far as carnival fever spread across the town and with community support in abundance as over 20,000 attended to help make it one to remember. But, I believe this year will be even better and I know that the wonderful Frome public will once again get behind the carnival and top last year’s wonderful event.

Carnival really is for the people of Frome. All the money collected goes back into the charity account to help those in need in the town. But, a long time before the event the hard work starts with everything culminating in Frome’s centrepiece of the social calender.

To help with are fortunate that we have a great amount of support from many volunteers and help financially from some wonderful people to help us put on the best show possible.

We are extremely grateful to everyone who helps us financially. Without all of this help we would not be able to run our carnival and this would be the end of a tradition in Frome, and would also mean that our help for local groups and individuals in and around the town would not be available. And as the requests for help has increased considerably over the last couple of years, we do not want this to happen and I am sure with your support we will be able to continue for many years to come.

Thanks to Rotary and their friends who arrange the collection for us and to the Lions who transport our royalty around during carnival week when we visit the residential and nursing homes so that the residents can feel part of our great tradition.

Congratulations to our royalty and I hope you have a lovely time.

My very grateful thanks to our small but hardworking committee who work hard all year. I look forward to seeing all of you and I am sure that many of you have been working hard to get your costumes etc., ready for our show. Good luck.

I hope that you will enjoy the carnival and all of its events and that you will show your appreciation of the efforts made to entertain you by giving generously so that we can make this a record collection.

June Barnes, M.B.E., Hon. Chairman
