FROME’S Town Crier and his escort have completed a successful year having competed in 20 competitions and won seven trophies.

Mike and Angie Bishop have just one event left on Saturday 8th November at Hatherleigh in Devon, but have already added to their ever increasing trophy cabinet. All of the trophies won this year have been in the dress category, either for Angie as an escort or for them both as a couple.

Mike has been placed in the top three of a few of the competitions, but his most welcomed result was at the last competition on the 18th October, at the National Championships held at Hastings, where he was placed in fifth place, ahead of some criers whom he has never beaten.

The competition that has still to take place in Hatherleigh, was the scene of Mike’s first ever win in the ‘Cry’ category last year, and he is hoping to retain the trophy there again this year.

They have both also announced that next year’s Frome Town Crier Festival will take place, as it was in some doubt earlier this year. They are moving it from the park and will be holding the competition outside the library, by the market, on Saturday 20th June. More details will be announced next year.

They, along with their hard-working committee have already started fund raising for the event, as they need to raise all the funds themselves. They will be holding several bingo events at the Frome Cricket Club, the next one being on Thursday 6th November, eyes down at 8pm.

Mike and Angie will also be having their usual stall at this year’s Christmas Fair in the Cheese and Grain on Saturday 15th November.
