Frome fundraiser praised in national awards

A Frome fundraiser has received national recognition of her long-standing support for a children’s charity.

Judith Loughlin, the manager of the Barnardo’s shop in Kingsway Precinct, was a finalist in the Charity Staff & Volunteers Awards 2015. She was nominated in the Dedicated Long Service category after fundraising for more than 25 years.

Judith was invited to an awards ceremony in London last week which was organised by the Charity Staff Foundation.

Although she didn’t win, the finalists had beaten competition from more than 700 other nominations from across the UK.

Judith said, “I was amazed to find out that I was a finalist, and I was very humbled to hear the stories of the other nominees who’d dedicated their lives to helping others.

“The Frome shop wouldn’t be a success without the commitment of the entire team of staff and volunteers, but it was nice to feel special and to share how Barnardo’s is making such a difference to children’s lives.

“The awards ceremony made me even more aware of how charities are so vital to the welfare of the nation.”

Judith was nominated by Barnardo’s media and communications manager Justin Guy who said, “Judith is the charity’s longest-serving shop manager in the South West and I wanted to recognise her incredible dedication and commitment.

“She has a fantastic team of staff and volunteers who raise an amazing amount of money for Barnardo’s every year.

“Much of their success is due to Judith’s infectious enthusiasm, and her encouragement of such a fun and caring atmosphere which is clearly visible to shoppers and donors.

“It really does feel like a family and it’s always a pleasure to visit.”

The Charity Staff Foundation provides dedicated support to people who work or volunteer in the charity sector.

Spokesman Danny Greenwood said, “These annual awards celebrate outstanding achievements made by people across the UK.

“They are also a great way for charities to thank their staff and volunteers who go the extra mile for their cause.

“We loved meeting Judith – she is a remarkable ambassador for Barnardo’s.”

The Barnardo’s shop is open Monday – Saturday from 9.00am-5.30pm and on Sundays from 10.00am-4.00pm. The team always welcome donations of good-quality clothes, books, toys and games, as well as offers of help from potential volunteers. Call (01373) 463513.
