Frome Active Sports Fest

A new community sporting event is coming to Frome.

The Frome Active Sports Fest on Sunday 29th March from 10.00am – 2.00pm will be packed full of some of the sporting activities that Frome has to offer.  Spread over THREE sites the Frome Children’s Festival and Frome Active join forces to bring you a day of Free sporting fun for all the family.

The event is being organised by Frome Children’s Festival, and as with all Frome Childrens Festival events the emphasis is on fun, experience and social inclusion.

On behalf of Frome Children’s Festival, Rachel Griffin said, “Once again we are being supported by Frome Development CiC which allows us to keep our event open to all, along with the fantastic support of the venues and the sports clubs involved.  We were particularly pleased that the Leisure Centre are involved, as they are generally seen as separate from town events.  Hopefully this is the start of an exciting partnership.”

At the football club there will be boxing, football, fly fishing, skittles, darts, yoga, and community games as well as reasonably priced refreshments.

There will be free sessions of water polo 10.00-11.00am, Canoe Club 12.00-1.00pm  and Swim Club 1.00-2.00pm  in the main pool of the Leisure Centre.  They are also offering £1 swim in main pool outside above times or in the teaching pool from 10.00am – 4.00pm with the sports festival postcard distributed to every family in Frome.

Tennis, badminton, Football Factory, squash and Streetdance will also be at the leisure centre and then at the third venue, Selwood School, there will be gymnastics, judo, orienteering, football, BMX demonstrations and workshops, Bikeability, Slackline, cricket and archery.

Azeema Cafoor from Young People Frome said,  “It started off with an idea put to the football club but has opened out to now cover three sites.  We are delighted with the response.  The idea is simply to show kids what a wide variety of things there are to do in Frome and for them to have a go and get involved.”

Don’t forget to bring your bike for both Bikeability and BMX fun with Matti Hemmings. For further information about this event go to the Facebook/FromeChildrens Festival
