Choral Evensong commemorates a lost composer & helps Nepal

A church service of Choral Evensong will be held on  Sunday 7th June  at Christ Church in Frome.

This service will commemorate the composer, William Denis Browne, who died on 4th June  1915 while on active service with the Royal Navy in Gallipoli.

Before the First World War, W Denis Browne, a friend of the poet Rupert Brooke, had been organ scholar at Clare College, Cambridge where he had composed the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis in A major, which will be sung at the service on 7th June, the Sunday nearest to the hundredth anniversary of his death. The anthem will be ‘Greater Love’ by John Ireland.

There will be a retiring collection at the end of the service for the Disasters Emergency Committee’s appeal to help the victims of the Nepal Earthquakes.

The service will start at 6.00pm and last less than an hour. All are welcome.
