Award winners with their prizes.

The Merlin Theatre Company won five awards at the recent Somerset Fellowship of Drama Cinderella Awards for their stunning production of ‘A Christmas Carol’.

Director Claudia Pepler said, ‘Such a lot of hard work goes into these productions;  what I love about the Cinderella awards is the recognition for all of the back stage and creative team members.”

The awards went to, Leonie Harrison ‘best female singer’ for her haunting solo as Belle, Scrooge’s only love; Dillon Berry Young ‘characterisation of the year’ for Tiny Tim (this part was shared with Holly McPhee Clarke); Dave Merritt for stage management, Felix Byrne for theatre design and Robin Ainslie King received the moderator’s award for his mesmerising puppet ghosts. The company also received awards for all of the Cratchitt children, plus a further six nominations; Amy Morgan-Bell for best choreography, David Hynds for best musicians,  Corinne Hunter for props, Robin Ainslie-King for best special effects, Lucia Snell for costume, and Claudia Pepler for director.

The company is preparing for their next venture, a full blown musical production of ‘Rent’ produced and performed in just 24 hours! This immense undertaking is in aid of the Merlin Theatre’s ‘Light Up’ campaign, raising money towards new lighting and sound equipment.

Next week there will be a workshop and auditions for their autumn production of ‘Avenue Q’, another challenging production as the performers not only have to sing, dance and act, but also operate puppets!
