Local author’s book signing

Frome author Jean Lowe, will be signing copies of her book “A Survivor’s Practical Travel Guide to Parish Councils” at Hunting Raven Books in Cheap Street, Frome on Sunday 2rd August to coincide with the Independent Sunday Market.

Inspired by her time as a local parish councillor and from running a West Country Planning Consultancy, Jean realised there was nowhere anyone could easily get the answers to even the most basic questions about how parish councils work, or what councillors actually do?

This new book contains essential information for anyone becoming a councillor or exploring their parish councillor. Included is the dos and don’ts of being a councillor, allotments, planning, Freedom of Information, money and much more.

It’s written as an easy to use self-help guide and as a general reference manual using examples from Frome and follows the day to day trials and tribulations of this quintessential market town in a sympathetic and finely observed portrait. Its quirky character, determined independence, as well as being the “6th coolest” town in England makes a fascinating story.

Jean said, “I wanted a guide which was truly helpful and practical and based on a real place. Frome is just an amazing town, this is about Frome people and this is their story which is rarely told.”

The black and white photographs echo the town’s 1950’s retro look. Plus there are maps and a Frome Town Walking Trail.

Jean will be signing copies between 11.00 and 2.30. Copies of the Guide will be available afterwards from Hunting Raven Books or check out the website
