Joanne Shaw Taylor to play Cheese & Grain

British blues guitarist and singer-songwriter Joanne Shaw Taylor is gearing up for her Autumn UK tour.

Joanne stops off at the  Cheese and Grain on Thursday 15th October, where she will be performing songs from her most recent critically acclaimed album ‘The Dirty Truth’, as well as songs from her previous three albums.

Described as “The Queen of Blues Rock” by Powerplay Magazine, while the Sunday Times said “Who Says white gals can’t play guitar?”, and Classic Rock Magazine said “Joanne is a world class blues talent.”

Joanne Shaw Taylor grew up around Birmingham, and was inspired in her early teens to play the blues after hearing Stevie Ray Vaughan, Albert Collins and Jimi Hendrix. Dave Stewart heard Taylor play, and in 2002 invited her to join his supergroup, D.U.P., on tour in Europe.

Joanne is currently the biggest blues rock guitarist  in the UK and was discovered by Eurythmics’ Dave Stewart when she was 16 years old, and has played guitar for Annie Lennox at the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee on 4th June 2012.

In May 2009, she released her debut album, ‘White Sugar’, on Ruf Records. Taylor’s second release was 2010’s ‘Diamonds in the Dirt’, also on Ruf Records. Both her albums peaked at number eight in the US Billboard Top Blues Albums chart.

In 2010, she won Best Female Vocalist at the British Blues Awards. She won the same award at the 2011 British Blues Awards, plus the Songwriter of the Year award for ‘Same As It Never Was’ from ‘Diamonds in the Dirt’. Taylor’s fourth studio album, ‘The Dirty Truth’, was recorded in Memphis, Tennessee with producer Jim Gaines, and was released on 22nd September 2014

A contrast from the ‘pop style’ female artists that are constantly in the media eye, Joanne represents the blues rock music scene in the UK which is fast becoming very popular.   Joanne is a staple on Planet Rock Radio, and one of the first contemporary rock artists to be constantly played on the radio station.

In the past year, Planet Rock has play-listed four singles from her current critically acclaimed album ‘The Dirty Truth’.  The station is currently playing her fourth single ‘Wicked Soul’, which is also being given away as a FREE download on Classic Rock’s massive website. She is also the first artist to have a ‘Planet Rock Presents’ UK tour build around her September/October 2015 UK tour dates.

Tickets for her performance at the Cheese & Grain: £20 / box office: 01373 455420 – Book Online: www.thegigcartel.com – www.cheeseandgrain.com
