Anxious wait for Frome Park Ladies

Frome Park Ladies played their final Wild League match at home against City of Wells on Thursday, knowing a good win would probably secure the league title.

Unfortunately they lost a close encounter by the narrowest of margins of 1 shot overall, winning on 2 rinks to pick up 4 points.  The best rink for the Park was Val Church, Myra Drew & Margaret Jennings, who held their form well to record a 14-11 victory.

This now gives the ladies an anxious wait to see the results of other games still left to be played, to find out who has taken top spot.

On Friday evening the mixed team played Blue Circle, Westbury, in a mixed friendly match with the Westbury team claiming the win by 14 shots, Frome Park 51, Blue Circle 65. Frome Park’s only winning rink consisted of Olive Maidment, Malcom Jepson, Dave Butler and Viv Lake, who sneaked home by 16-13.

With all the league action over for the summer, the men have been enjoying some friendly matches.  Last Saturday they played hosts to Sydney Gardens, Bath, on a warm sunny afternoon; both teams relished the conditions and had 2 winning rinks each, with the home side managing to sneak the win by 2 shots.  The best rink for the home side was Colin Robb, Clive Smith, John Curtis & Richard Phillips who had the upper hand throughout to win by 24 shots to 9.

In an 18 end evening fixture on Wednesday, Frome Park gained revenge for an earlier season defeat at Trowbridge Westbourne, with the Park this time claiming a good win overall by 68 shots to 51 with 2 rinks winning, a one shot defeat on a third and a larger deficit on the fourth.  Biggest winning rink for the Frome side was Les Stather, Brian Indoe, Eddie Maidment and Richard Phillips who triumphed by 21 shots to 5.
