Frome Film Club presents the award-winning and highly acclaimed Polish film, Ida, directed by Pawel Pawlikowski, at the Merlin Theatre on Wednesday 7th October at 8pm.
Abandoned in a convent as a baby during the German occupation of Poland in World War 2, Anna is about to take vows as a nun when she learns she has a surviving relative. Her aunt Wanda, a former Communist state prosecutor, leads a dissolute, self-destructive life that contrasts sharply with the ascetic existence of her sheltered niece, and has some life-changing news for Anna about her past.
This complex excavation into Poland’s turbulent past is a starkly beautiful, compact masterpiece.
Membership for the 2015/16 season is still available at £30 for 10 films. Visit www.fromefilm.co.uk for information on the films to be screened and how to join. Tickets: non members £6.
