Diamonds and Stars shine

Frome Diamonds 34 – 28 Devizes 6

Diamonds came back from a tough last season with new players and tactics for an impressive start to this year’s league.

It took a few minutes for Diamonds to settle into the first quarter to find their rhythm, with great defending from Jessica Read and Sarah Attwood in the D saw Diamonds take the lead 11 – 6

With changes from Devizes 6 in the second quarter Diamonds had to dig deep against Devizes strong defence. With solid team work Diamonds managed to keep their lead just 13-11

In the third quarter saw changes to the Diamond squad who came back even more determined, with superb attacking from Samantha Kemmery and Megan Crocker though centre court and some lovely interception from Tracy Carter. Kiah Greenan kept the defence up in the D seeing diamonds still leading 22-18.

In the finally quarter Diamonds put in a solid performance and kept a constant pressure on Devizes 6 and with excellent accurate shooting from Georgia Cox saw Diamonds come out victories 34-28.

Frome Stars 39 – 16 Westbury

Stars sponsored by Dennis Maps started their league one campaign with a great win over local rivals Westbury.

Lucy Perry, a new addition to the team from last season, made some great interceptions from the first to the last whistle, earning her the Player of the Match award.

With turnover balls being converted into goals by Janie Bullus and Kate Smith, Stars just led the first quarter by 8 goals to 6.

Stars settled in the second quarter and cutting out their sloppy passes turned possession into goals. Kate playing out of position held her win in the shooting circle and grew in confidence as the match progressed. Stars surged ahead and led by 18 goals to 7 at half time.

Again the third quarter saw Stars restricted Westbury’s shooting opportunities with Kathy Dredge and Lucy picking up rebounds and turning defence into offence through Jo Knight and Sophie Cox. Stars forged ahead leading by 29 goals to 12.

In the last quarter Stars continued to press and Tracey Carter, who had already played previously defended well to keep Westbury at bay.

A great start for Stars who  will face tougher challenges than this, but captain Sophie was pleased that they had got off to a winning start. Players player Kate Smith.

Stars now have to wait till November before they play again.
