Frome care staff honoured at awards ceremony

The Somerset Care Group held its annual awards ceremony at the Somerset County Cricket Ground, Taunton, on 16th September, at which several members of Frome care staff were honoured.   

Over 130 guests, including award-winners and their families, attended the event at the County Ground, travelling from far and wide, with one guest flying in from America to attend.

Presentations were made to staff members who had been nominated by their fellow colleagues, customers and healthcare professionals for going above and beyond, with a winner being announced in each category.

Victoria Hughes-Jones, deputy manager of Critchill Court was announced as the winner of the ‘Inspirational Line Manager’ category and was presented with Highly Commended in the category of ‘Quality Dementia Care’.

Also from Critchill Court, Josie Green, care assistant, received a Highly Commended award for ‘Outstanding Care Worker of the Year.’

Sandra Levett and Jean Robinson, members of staff from Somerset Care’s Community Services team in Frome were also honoured. They both were announced as winners of the ‘Creative Innovation’ category for their work at the Emma Sheppard Dementia Active Centre in Frome.

Attendees heard speeches from Jane Townson chief executive and Chris Davies chairman. A short film was also shown which had been created for the ceremony involving staff members and customers who spoke about the importance of care.

Speaking at the ceremony, chief executive Jane Townson said, “The Care Awards Ceremony is for me a high point of the company’s year. It’s a celebration of the best of what we do and what we stand for.

“The many examples of outstanding care recognised, reflect our company values – Customers, Care, Candour – in action. I love the passion, creativity, collaboration and commitment demonstrated by so many staff, as well as their willingness to go the extra mile. A heartfelt thank you to all of you.”

Somerset Care is one of the largest not-for-profit healthcare providers in Southern England. The company provides over 29,000 hours of community care every week of the year to people in their own homes and through their residential care services they operate 31 care homes which provide residential and nursing care for over 1,550 residents.
