Frome College Sixth Form Open Evening

I would like to extend a warm welcome to you from Frome College Sixth Form, says College Principal, Gavin Ball.

Frome College has undergone a significant and exciting re-invention over the past couple of years and now stands for high standards, high expectations, great life chances and great careers.

This relentless drive on achieving great outcomes for our young people threads all the way through to our Sixth Form provision.  As an Upper School our core focus is teaching examination groups, either at GCSE, A Level or BTEC.

We have recruited and kept fantastic teachers who want to focus on their subject at the highest of levels.  This is what we do. We love teaching, we love to support the learning of our young people and we love success. The techniques of achieving fabulous GCSE results are being applied to A Level learning.  Our staff have a passion and belief that they can add value and get great results for all students.  This is what we do.  This is what we believe in.

There is a rich history of students from Frome College progressing onto Oxbridge, Russell Group and other distinguished universities. There are comprehensive support packages in place for students applying for medicine, law, veterinary science, mathematics, the sciences and so forth.

The university application system is strongly supported by the University of Bath with whom we have an outstanding relationship. This prestigious university also provides expert support through stretch and challenge programmes for our Sixth Form students.

Although we have a first class offer of traditional A Level subjects we also offer a range of BTEC courses that provide very valuable alternative routes for study at advanced level.  With less formal examination and more on-going assessment these courses reflect the business world and allow students to prove themselves at a high level in a different way.

It is also important to us that we have courses for students who are less academic but who we feel that we can develop and nurture.

Come and talk to us about our Employability course and our ‘Level 2’ provision or even our very own apprenticeship pathways.

We are not just about results.  We want to develop students into fully rounded young people.  We ask that students become involved in the life and soul of the college and participate in student leadership activities, work experience, participation schemes and enjoy themselves in the social life of being a sixth former.

We have a very strong Duke of Edinburgh programme, a vibrant music and performance scene and impressive business and enterprise links.  We are about developing character, resilience, dynamism – the get up and go factor that really helps a young person to stand out from the crowd.  This is what we believe in.  This is what we do.

And we care.  All of this is underpinned by a strong and experienced tutor team that offers personal care and attention.  Further support is offered by the College Welfare Centre that can broker additional health and well-being services from a number of internal and external agencies.

Being a Sixth Former is the best ‘job’ in the world.  As a previous Head of Sixth Form I can say that too was a fabulous job.  It would be my pleasure to host you on our Sixth Form evening on Wednesday 4th November.  If you cannot make that please phone the school on 01373 46 53 53 to make an appointment for your very own personal tour of the school and sixth form.  We want to share our love of learning with you.
