SHARE: A Library of Things have secured £18,000 to launch an exciting new programme of repair sessions in 2016.
The money was secured from the WEEE Improvement Project which aims to reduce the amount of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) being sent to landfill. The shop plans to launch weekly repair activities and a ‘share and repair’ festival in early Spring 2016 and are recruiting a team of ‘fixers’ and a new project manager.
Anna Francis, the town council’s resilience officer who secured the money said, “We’re so pleased to be able to offer this new programme in 2016.
“On average each resident in Frome throws away almost 10kg of electrical items each year. These items can often be re-used or repaired saving money, recycled to rescue valuable metals and components and reused to save energy going into making new ones. Through a combination of sharing electrical items, skill share and repair we aim to significantly reduce the amount of these items being thrown away.”
