It wasn’t just the Foo Fighters who rocked Frome last month; Frome College students brought the house down at the Merlin Theatre with their own production of ‘We Will Rock You’.
Reviewer Sarah Wingrove writes, “A combination of music by rock legends Queen and the boyish comedy of Ben Elton, this musical had everyone giggling and rocking in their seats. Frome College students delivered a fantastic performance and a theatre experience fit for the West End!
“Set in a futuristic world led by Killer Queen and her Globalsoft empire, real music has died and has instead been replaced by a cyber-universe where everyone dresses and thinks the same, unless you’re a rebel. The story follows Galileo and his accomplices, Scaramouche and the Bohemians as they go in search of the instruments from the Golden Age of Rock.
“The students of Frome College have worked hard for the past five months mastering the classic Queen songs led by musical director and head of expressive arts, Andi Nicholls, and complex choreography by Amy Maughan of Tri.Art Dance Academy.
“The cast’s hard work was rewarded with a sell-out run of performances and standing ovations every night. Each member of the cast was fully committed to their role, directed by Claudia Pepler of the Merlin Theatre, conveying their characters clearly and singing from the heart.
“The energy the cast put into the performance was incredible and felt by the audience making them want to sing and dance along. It was wonderful to clearly see how much the students enjoyed performing.
“Alongside an incredibly talented cast, the backstage team was run by a team of Frome College students smoothly running the show. The production was visually stunning with futuristic media, with an adaptable set and props changing from futuristic world of Planet Mall to the oblivion of the Seven Seas of Rhye.
“The whole production was truly spectacular from start to finish; each and every person involved was a true credit to Frome College. They really rocked!
“Thank you to everyone involved for an outstanding show, and to Chris Bailey Photography for covering the event.”
