Frome cyclists complete London to Paris challenge in less than 24 hours

The Frome cyclists Andy Hodgson, Ian Rogers and Jeremy Gale

A TRIO from Frome, Andy Hodgson, Ian Rogers and Jeremy Gale, recently cycled from London to Paris in just under 23 hours to raise funds for The Pod, a Frome charity that supports Young People with disabilities and Young Carers.

The challenge started on Friday 16th June with the group leaving Big Ben just before 4pm and arriving at the Eiffel Tower in Paris at 3pm on Saturday 17th June. In total this involved 167 miles of riding along the Avenue Verte cycle path and minor roads, averaging a speed of 15mph, with only a few hours’ rest on the short ferry crossing from Newhaven to Dieppe.

Sue Paxton, chair of the Pod said, “We are so grateful to Andy, Ian and Jeremy for taking on this enormous challenge and for choosing to nominate The Pod. Despite the temperatures soaring to over 30 degrees they did extremely well and still managed to complete the demanding ride in just under the planned 24 hours.”

All the monies raised will go towards a planned programme of development for The Pod, enabling the charity to continue providing essential services for disadvantaged disabled children and young people in Frome who do not have the same opportunities as their peers.

“We would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to the team but also to everyone who has supported their huge achievement. This includes friends and colleagues, but also the Royal Somerset Lodge and The Three Swans who organised a quiz night and a collection bucket in the bar.  The support for this challenge has been fantastic and has raised about £2,000 for the Pod.”
