Frome runners complete double marathons

Two Frome runners set themselves the challenge of completing a double-marathon course in the Race to the Tower, on Sunday 11th June.

Starting near the town of Stroud in Gloucestershire, the ultramarathon course follows the Cotswold Way off-road past quaint villages and Medieval burial grounds to finish at the Broadway Tower in Worcestershire.

Victoria Penman (FV40) completed the 54.2-mile route in 15:50:02 and Adrian Mead (MV40) in 15:50:03.

On the same day, club runner Pete Larman (MV45) lined up for the Chew Valley 10K race in Bishop Sutton. He completed the picturesque course in 00:40:42, earning himself third position in category.

This month saw the return of some mid-week favourites, including the Heddington 10K on Tuesday, 13th June. Peter Reed (MV40) was flying the flag for Frome and crossed the line in 00:23:09. The following day, Brett Sadler (MV60) took to the streets of Yeovil for the Yeovil Town 5K run. His time of 00:19:58 earned him second position in category. The short, speedy races continued into the weekend with the Broad Town 5 on 17th June.

This 5-mile road race was also race number 5 in the 2017 Wilts Road Race League. Joseph Donworth (MSEN) was in fine form again, completing the course in 00:28:54 to bag 2nd position overall and 2nd in category. Katherine Uphill (FSEN) put in an equally impressive performance. Her time of 00:32:09 secured her 1st woman overall and 1st in category. More Frome Running Club athletes braved the sweltering temperatures to take part in the Lacock 5k and 10k, Half Marathon.

Samuel Evans (Junior Male U20) completed the 5K route in 00:24:01. He was followed shortly after by Emma Evans (F40-49) whose time of 00:26:52 earned her 1st position in category. Mary Evans (Junior Female U20) followed not long after in 00:38:04.

Jan Lake (F40-49) completed the 10K route in 00:1:01:53 while Shane Ford took on the Half Marathon, finishing in a time of 01:44:11. Over in Hampshire, three more Frome Club runners lined up for the Hampshire Hoppit trail marathon.

Giles Padfield (MV40-49) was the first Frome runner to cross the line in a time of 04:53:55, followed by Sarah Perrett (FSEN) in 06:19:57 and Dave Perrett (MV40-49) in 06:58:01.
