Sustainable Frome goes back to the land

THIS month Sustainable Frome is inviting the writer and researcher Nikki Jones to give a talk about the way we use the land.

How does our use of the land contribute to climate change? Is the livestock industry a bigger source of greenhouse gases than fossil fuels? How could biological energy carbon be captured and stored?  Nikki, an expert on global energy issues, will describe the many ways that livestock production adds to our greenhouse gas emissions and how getting carbon back into the soil should be a priority for governments. There will be opportunities for questions throughout.

This session is one in a series of monthly meetings run by Sustainable Frome under the heading ‘One Planet Frome’. At the moment we in the developed world use resources as if we had three planets. How do we need to change in order to sustain the one planet we have? And what can we do about it in Frome?

The meeting will take place on Thursday 6th July in the Cricket Club, next to the Showfield in Rodden Road – from 7.30 for the talk or from 6.45 for a shared meal. Details are available on the Sustainable Frome website.

Also this month there will be a Nature Rights meeting at the Town Hall to look at progress on creating a nature rights byelaw for the River Frome.

The meeting will be followed by lunch and a river walk. The meeting takes place on Monday 10th July at 12pm.
