Frome Running Club finishes the summer off in style

AS the summer months drew to a close, there was no let up on races for Frome Club runners.

Sunday 13th August heralded the return of the Salisbury 5-4-3-2-1 race. The event has something for every runner with distances from 5km through to 21km, and 33km distances to a 50km ultramarathon.

Frome athlete Ian Holmes (MV45) took on the ultramarathon and came in eighth in category, completing the distance in 05:24:03. Dave Perrett (MV40) completed the 33km race in 04:39:00 while Stephen Ratcliff (MV50) and Graham Farley (MV50) finished the 21km distance in 02:21:22 and 02:31:56 respectively.

A few days later on 16th August, more local runners lined up for the Hilly Helmut Challenge in Westbury, an approximately 4-mile multi-terrain run that raises funds for Brain Tumour Support. Pete Larman was the first Fromie to cross the line, coming fifth overall with a time of 00:29:43 (PB). Hot on his heels was Lee Stone, who finished sixth in a time of 00:29:45. Shane Ford was next with a time of 00:32:27, followed by Keith Robinson in 00:33:10, Ian Holmes in 00:34:01 (PB), Chapper Boulton in 00:38:18, Michelle Caines in 00:39:32, Zoe Boulton in 00:41:51, Lucy Gaffney in 00:42:13, Dave Perrett in 00:43:42 and Peter Lee in 00:46:13 (PB).

Sunday 20th August, saw the last of the series of Bath Two Tunnels events. A small contingent of Frome Club runners lined up for the 10K race to complete their medal series. Peter Reed (MV40) completed the course in 00:49:51, followed by David White (MSEN) in 00:47:24 and Ali Smith (MV60) in 00:50:27.

On the same day, Ted Sprules (MV60) took to the roads of Trowbridge for the inaugural Trowbridge 10K race. He completed the course in 00:42:14, earning himself first position in category.

A week later, more Frome club runners headed to the border with Wales for the Severn Bridge Half Marathon. Sally Brooker (FV50) was the first Fromie to finish, posting a PB time of 02:06:40. She was followed shortly after by Catherine Dowling (FV35) in 02:07:59. Anne Porter (FV60) completed the challenging route in 02:12:59, bagging fourth position in category.

Finishing off the month in style, Ted Sprules (MV60) used the sunny August bank holiday to compete in the Baltonsborough Five-Mile race. His time of 00:33:05 earned him first position in category and sixth position overall.
