Iyad Sughayer: Piano Recital

The young Jordanian-Palestinian pianist, Iyad Sughayer,  who took Frome by storm when he played in Christ Church in March 2016, is returning to play at the same venue on Saturday 14th October at 7.30pm.

After the 23 year old’s acclaimed German debut in Hamburg and a spell-binding performance of Messiaen’s ‘Quartet for the End of Time’ in Manchester Cathedral with soloists from the Manchester Camerata, Frome will have the pleasure of hearing Iyad in a programme of Handel, Schubert and Liszt.

Last year’s recital in Frome was an amazing success – both musically and as a fundraiser to support Iyad during his MA studies at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. Ruth Windle (Frome resident and concert organiser) was delighted to be asked when he would be returning and how people could go on supporting him in his studies.

Iyad loved being in Frome and was very touched by the welcome he received and the generosity shown by all concerned. So he and Ruth immediately set about planning another concert. Ruth says, “Originally this was to have been a Frome Festival overture event but unfortunately had to be postponed due to injury. So this is the rescheduled concert and we are looking forward to seeing you there.

“As with last year’s venture, Frome has been its wonderful open-hearted self and individuals and local businesses (Café La Strada, Frome Wholefoods, Garden Café, McAllisters Estate Agents, Postscript, The Pipe Shop, Raves from the Grave and Vallis Commodities) have been very happy to donate and sponsor the concert to cover costs and maximise support for Iyad’s studies.

“Meanwhile, if you haven’t yet heard this remarkable young man play, listen to him on YouTube and book your tickets early for the recital on 14th October. We almost made it to a full house last year and tickets are selling like hot cakes. So let’s see if this year we can do even better and fill Christ Church to the rafters for what promises to be another wonderful evening of music making.
