Safer school trips for teachers and pupils

CHILDREN and teachers at a Frome school have had no problem being seen since they returned to school in September – thanks to a helping hand from David Wilson Homes.

The local housebuilder is creating a new community in the town called Aldhelm Court and has donated hi vis jackets to pupils and staff at nearby Christ Church C of E First School to help them stay safe. The bright tops will be used when the children go on school trips so they, as well as their teachers, can be easily seen.

“We know how important it is to encourage youngsters to get out and about – and the benefits of school trips are undisputed,” said David Wilson Homes sales director, Louise Ware.

“Just like David Wilson Homes, Christ Church puts pupil safety top of the list and we’re delighted to be able to help staff do just that on school trips. We know the jackets, teamed with the excellent safety advice given out during lessons here at Christ Church C of E First School, will make a big difference.”

Rupert Kaye, headteacher added, “One of our most important values is to provide a secure, safe, happy and caring learning environment for all of our pupils. We’re delighted that this donation from David Wilson Homes has helped us to extend that safety element beyond the classroom and ensure our pupils are safe outside of the school gates, as well as inside them.

“We’ll be making good use of the hi vis vests, particularly when we undertake our various school trips throughout the year.”
