New creative space opens in Frome

STUDIO 61, a new workspace offering you the chance to explore your creative side, has opened in Frome.

Local independent artist, Max Ryan, opened Studio 61 on Marston Lane in September, offering a range of pottery and throwing classes and life drawing classes.

A passionate photographer, Max also runs a photography service from the studio, with wedding photography packages on offer and individual commissions also available.

And if that didn’t keep Max busy enough, she also offers a professional framing service, with a wide variety of moldings and mount boards to choose from.

Originally an art and design technology teacher for 16 years, Max’s new venture has got off to a great start. “I’m very excited about Studio 61,” she said. “I love coming to work. It’s a fantastic space to be in.”

“The pottery classes have been very successful, with people of all different levels of skill taking part. There are a range of classes on offer including an introduction to throwing, a six-week short ceramics course and a three-week Raku short course.

“The classes are great for people who are beginners, through to those who are experienced and want to use the space to throw their own stuff. I’ve had comments that my teaching background helps to provide a supportive and encouraging environment to be creative in.

“I also can accommodate large groups as I have five potters’ wheels and can open the studio for parties. I’ve already had a hen party use the space, which was very entertaining and lots of fun. The bride-to-be also booked me to be the photographer at her wedding and then used me to frame some of the photos!

“The life drawing classes have also been very popular. I run two classes every week on Tuesday and Friday evenings from 6.30pm until 8.30pm. There is a glass of wine, soft drink or hot drink included in the evening and drawing boards and easels are provided.”

Looking ahead, Max said, “I look forward to welcoming people to my new creative space, I hope everyone enjoys it as much as I do!”
