New support group for those with Meniere’s

A New support group for those with Meniere’s,  vestibular (inner ear) disorders causing dizziness and imbalance, will meet for the first time next week.

The meeting will give the opportunity for people who are in a similar situation, to pick up tips from each other, and there will be  information leaflets available from the Meniere’s Society.

Jenny Hartnoll, Health Connections service lead says, “We were approached by someone who wanted to meet other people who are affected by Meniere’s, so we are helping him see if there is a need in the community for a peer support group.”

Natasha Harrington-Benton, director of the Meniere’s Society says, “The Ménière’s Society supports people affected by vestibular (inner ear) disorders causing dizziness and imbalance. Vestibular conditions are not life-threatening, but they can be life changing and can cause distress and disability to those affected. More than one in ten people of working age and one in five people older than 60 years currently has dizziness that causes considerable interference with daily activities. Symptoms are unpredictable and treatment is often limited to managing symptoms, not prevention. This can affect day-to-day activities such as driving, going to work or getting the children to school.’

“The Ménière’s Society, as the only UK registered charity dedicated solely to supporting people with vestibular disorders, provides vital support to those affected during assessment and diagnosis, through to the later stages of their condition. Support is also available to those who care for them, health professionals and the public.
