Stand together on International Women’s Day

INTERNATIONAL Women’s Day will be celebrated in Frome to help press for progress in gender equality.

The people of Frome are invited to join together at 4pm at the bottom of Cheap Street/newly restored Boyle Cross and be part of Frome’s International Women’s Day celebrations on Thursday 8th March.

“The start of the year has seen a series of high profile viral hashtag campaigns targeting ongoing issues for women in today’s society like the explosive #MeToo and #Time’sUp,” said Nikki Lloyd, one of the organisers.

“International Women’s Day was first instated by the Suffragettes, and has run annually since 1911. Press for progress is their campaign that aims to unite friends, colleagues and whole communities to think, act and be gender inclusive.

“This year, Frome residents are being asked to stand together through the town as a symbol of the town’s inclusivity. As the questions raised by these movements echo throughout the world, what better time to come together as a town and turn up to celebrate International Women’s Day by standing together, hand in hand, to help progress the rights of women through a show of strength and solidarity.

“Look out for posters in the meantime and on 8th March bring your family, friends and work colleagues together to unite for one brief but memorable moment and link together throughout the town.”
