Undeterred Frome duo keep on running

Frome residents Zdenek Gregor and Liam Harkness are currently training hard to prepare for Liam’s first marathon in Brighton on Sunday 15th April.

They are running for the local charity Somerset Sight which has been in operation since 1919. The charity offers a range of services and activities to sight impaired people of all ages across Somerset.

As part of Zdenek and Liam’s training they were planning to run the Bath Half but due to heavy snowfall the race was cancelled, the first time the race has been cancelled since it started in 1982. The pair is refusing to be undeterred by the setback, however, and they are now planning on running the Yeovil Half on Sunday 25th March.

Zdenek said, “I am the guide for Liam, who is blind and we run together regularly. Despite the snow our training is going well and we are looking forward to the event in Brighton. It will be Liam’s first full marathon and my 41st! We hope to raise much-needed funds for the great work that Somerset Sight do.”

Becky Fry from Somerset Sight said, “We are thrilled that Zdenek and Liam are supporting us in this way. Every year Somerset Sight supports 3,000 people with impaired vision right across the county. Fundraising is vitally important to us and we are very grateful to them for their support.”
