‘Plant more trees in Frome’ – your chance to get involved

Trees around Frome are the topic of the next Sustainable Frome meeting, hosted by The Tree Group, Frome.

Local author Julian Hight, a leading campaigner for reviving the legacy of the ancient Forest of Selwood, will give a talk on the history of Selwood Forest, the ancient trees of Selwood found in the landscape and his project to replant oaks in the area using saplings grown from acorns from Longleat oaks.

There will be information on tree planting activities you can get involved in, details of the planned screening of the film ‘Call of The Forest’ by pioneer Diana Beresford-Kroeger and ways of involving children and motivating young people to value nature and nurture their immediate environment, will be discussed.

Co-organiser Pavla Kislovera said, “We’d love to hear your ideas and thoughts. Frome has an amazing woodland heritage. Re-connecting with nature and increasing space for trees has multiple benefits – from improving wellbeing to cleaning the air we breathe. We welcome people to bring their own projects along and will have space for you to introduce them.”

The meeting will take place on Thursday 5th April at Frome Cricket Club. Everyone is welcome. Come at 6.30pm for shared food or at 7pm for talks and discussions. The meeting is free, although a small contribution towards room hire is welcome.
