The Griffin is staying a pub!

There has been a huge sigh of relief by regulars at the Griffin Inn after owner Rik Lyall took the pub off the market.

The pub in Milk Street had been put up for sale to raise funds to develop Rik’s Milk Street Brewery but property developers came circling, who wanted to convert the popular pub into flats.

“Yes, the pub has been on the market and yes, we’ve had a lot of interest but it was from property developers who wanted to convert it into flats and that’s something I wasn’t going to let happen,” said Rik.

“With local house prices going up, several property developers were interested in converting the pub into flats but that was never in my thinking.

“The pub celebrated its 300th anniversary last year and it would be a real shame to see it go.

“It’s a popular venue, the only pub in Frome to have been continuously in Camra’s Good Beer Guide since 2000 and is well known far and wide for its live music which ranges from top live bands to Celtic and Transatlantic jam sessions!

“And our open mic nights give a chance for local budding singers and musicians to take to the stage.

“Our regular offering also include a World Food Night every Wednesday, quiz nights every Monday and Transatlantic music sessions on the last Tuesday of the month.

“Since putting the pub on the market, I’ve realised just what support there is for the Griffin, so I’d just like to reassure our regulars that it is staying a pub.”
