New initiatives for Frome Dementia Action Alliance

Frome Dementia Action Alliance (FDAA) has recently renewed its efforts to make Frome a truly dementia-friendly town, so that those living with dementia can live well.

Some of the initiatives that FDAA has recently committed to are:

• to meet regularly and precede each meeting with a “become a dementia friend” session

• to establish a bank of ‘dementia friend’ champions to lead ‘become a dementia friend’ sessions in their community/workplace

• to establish a database of activities and resources in the town

• investigate how social media could be used to positive effect for those living with dementia.

• to run ‘become a dementia friend’ sessions during Dementia Awareness week on Thursday 24th May at 10am and 2pm in the library.

Anyone who would like to know more or who has relevant local knowledge, skills or resources is invited to attend their meetings. The group says, “There would be no ongoing commitment beyond sharing their contact details if felt relevant.

“The next meeting of FDAA will be on Friday 25th May at 4pm at Critchill Court (3.30pm if you would also like to become a Dementia Friend)

“At our last meeting, Dorothy-Anne Bryant told us that she has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and is keen to help make Frome more dementia-friendly.   She also advised that she is going to ride the London 100 on Sunday 29th July in aid of Alzheimer’s Society – living proof indeed that you can live well with dementia!
