Baby Café launches in Frome

Story posted on

Joining a network of Baby Cafés across the UK, this unique concept offers a free drop-in service to all pregnant and breastfeeding mums as well as their families.

After successfully raising £4,500 through Crowdfund Frome along with match funding from Frome Town Council in April of last year – Frome now has its own Baby Café. Mums can expect up-to-date information and support in a non-judgemental, welcoming café setting.

Championed by Frome & District NCT, the Baby Café is managed by trained staff including accredited breastfeeding counsellor Katherine Woodbury, as well as a dedicated team of over a dozen volunteers.

Katherine Woodbury, Baby Café facilitator explains, “We are so excited about the launch of our Baby Café. Breastfeeding rates in the UK are the lowest in the world, despite a majority of mums wanting to breastfeed their babies. We hope to provide much needed support – wherever mums are in this journey.” She stresses that no-one needs to worry about being turned away, as all families are supported, whatever their feeding choices.

The initial launch day of the Baby Café saw 15 mothers seek advice, with many others just coming along for tea and a friendly chat.

The Baby Café is held every Friday, 10am -12pm at the Frome Town Council office on Park Road. For more details, follow the Baby Café Frome Facebook page.
