The future of Sustainable Frome hangs in the balance

THE future of Sustainable Frome is up for discussion at their July meeting on Thursday 5th July, where they are looking for more volunteers to keep the group going.

Starting in a small room above the Griffin pub as a way for like-minded people to share ideas, Sustainable Frome has both been sustainable (meeting every first Thursday for a decade), and supported a huge range of projects for more than a decade. Many of the ‘green’ initiatives that make Frome a cleaner, healthier place to live have had links to the group, which has also supported lobbying and campaigning on national and international issues.

The group now see themselves at a crossroads with only two directors, Anna and Sheila, being the driving force behind their ideas. Their meeting on Thursday 5th July at Frome Hall at 6.30pm will look at the current situation of the group and discuss ideas for the future.  Some of the discussions will be how to get more people involved, whether they should become a less formal organisation and close the CIC, whether more regular meetings are the answer or whether to close Sustainable Frome completely.

Star Molteno, a local experienced group facilitator who is researching ways of assessing the impact of transition town groups, will lead the session. She will be using the transition town health check tool alongside other participatory tools for taking stock of where the group is, encouraging a discussion on how the groups perceive their own ‘success’ and our vision for the future.

Go along to the meeting to have your say or if you are new to the group, to find out how you can help. For more information visit http:// transitionfrome.org.uk/ or email info@sustainable frome.org.uk.
