Wildcats girls football is a roaring success!

Frome Town Youth FC recently celebrated the success of its SSE Wildcats Girls’ Football Centre at the club’s annual presentation.
Since April, the club has been one of 19 centres across the county providing girls aged 5-11 with fun and engaging weekly football training sessions. The FA and SSE launched the initiative with a view to inspire girls to make friends and have fun whilst playing football and this has certainly been the case in Frome.
Club secretary and Wildcats lead coach, Sarah Davis, is delighted with the response. “Since the first taster session in April, a total of 32 girls have joined in at our sessions. It’s been great to see the girls pick up new skills and grow in confidence with a ball at their feet.”
The FA requires all Wildcats centres to run for a minimum of 16 weeks, however in its commitment to growing the girls game, Frome Town Youth FC plan to continue the provision for much longer.
Sarah explains, “We’re hoping, with the help of a few new volunteers, Frome Town Youth FC will create a pathway for these girls to continue playing and enjoying their new sport. The aim is to form two new teams; an U8 team for year 2 and 3 girls and an U10 team for year 4 and 5 girls.”
The creation of these two new teams, combined with the existing U12 and U14 girls’ teams means the club will now cater for 5-14 year-old girls from September onwards.
