FROME has got Carnival fever, as the town prepares for the hugely popular event next Saturday, 22nd September, with more entries than seen in many years, and fundraising events planned for Carnival week.

Frome Carnival committee member, Kevin Sivell said, “I am incredibly pleased to report that we have received more entries already than we had last year, and the committee is especially delighted to see more local entries than have entered for many years.”

As usual, the ‘Children’s Carnival’ will take place in the afternoon, with the main procession in the evening.

Following the success of last year, the evening Carnival will begin with a procession of vintage vehicles from the Festival of Transport, who are bringing even more vehicles – and potentially a steam engine!

Kevin added, “We know that the crowds are always particularly excited to see the light-up floats and I am therefore very happy to be able to confirm that more floats have entered this year.  In addition, we have five bands booked and the local Rock Choir will also be performing!”

However, there is still plenty of time to get involved, anyone can enter up to and including the day of Carnival. More information can be found on their Facebook page – Frome Carnival – or via their new website: www.fromecarnival.org.uk.

Each year, the committee fundraise throughout the year to pay the costs associated with the event, in order that donations given on the day can be put back into the local community through its registered charity.

The Carnival charity has given thousands of pounds in donations in recent years – helping local people and organisations, including: Fair Frome, Frome Refresh and a local school.

On Sunday 16th September, grab a team together for a charity quiz at the Mason’s Arms, Frome, starting at 7.30pm, or get your eyes down at the South Parade Club on Wednesday 19th September, starting at 7.30pm, all to raise money for Frome Carnival.

Don’t forget, the judging of the Frome Carnival window competition will take place during the week. The competition will be judged by the Carnival ambassadors, with the winning shop receiving a trophy.

The committee would also be particularly pleased to hear from anyone interested in volunteering.  There are numerous opportunities available, from collecting on the day to acting as a street marshal.  Anyone interested in volunteering is urged to contact the committee via email info@ fromecarnival.org.uk or Facebook.
