Bath Consort: Baroque Pleasures

Story posted on

Bath Consort perform the second of three concerts in St John’s Church this autumn, on Friday 26th October at 7.30pm.

Dressed in Baroque costume and often performing by candlelight, this acclaimed ensemble will perform some of the best-loved Baroque solo arias and duets by Monteverdi, Vivaldi, Handel and Purcell, in a programme entitled Streams of Pleasure. These include the sublime Oblivion soave from Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea, Vivaldi: Nulla in mundo pax and Purcell’s lively duet, Sound the Trumpet.

Soprano Julia O’Connor and mezzo-soprano Marie Elliott are accompanied by Matthew Spring (lute & theorbo), Linda Stocks (cello) and Jacquelyn Bevan (harpsichord); the programme also includes movements of J S Bach’s Solo Cello Suite in C.

Tickets £12.50, including an interval drink, at http://www.ticketsource. co.uk/msw or on the door.

The last of the three concerts will be on Friday 16th November: Sound the Trumpet, featuring trumpeter Colin Bloch.
