New Liberal Democrat Parliamentary candidate selected

Story posted on

Somerton & Frome Liberal Democrats say they are delighted to announce that Adam Boyden has been selected to be their next Parliamentary candidate, after winning the vote by their members.

The Party says, “Many people will know Adam as an active, experienced and hardworking local district councillor in Frome who has worked across party lines to improve disabled facilities, health services, leisure centres and green spaces, and to protect the environment against fracking, flytipping and climate change.  Adam’s record of action as a district councillor for Frome over the last 7 years can be found at www.adamboyden.my councillor.org.uk.”

Adam Boyden said, “I am ready to take on the challenge of winning back Somerton & Frome for the people of our constituency. At a time when nationally the Government is completely failing the country on Brexit, and locally Somerset County Council’s irresponsible cuts to public services are damaging our communities, people need to know that we are on their side and that there is an alternative to the Conservatives.

“As a local councillor for seven years, I have seen how politics can change lives for the better if we do things the right way. As your Parliamentary candidate I will work positively and proactively, to listen to and stand up for local people, to build trust in our party as a force for good, build alliances, and make a real difference on the issues that matter. I will campaign with everyone, for the whole community, to help people on their problems that needs fixing. This is what being a Liberal Democrat is all about – making change happen.

“I and the Liberal Democrats will campaign for a fairer economy, a good society, social justice and sustainable development, for liberty, equality and community and against poverty, ignorance and conformity, xenophobia and extremism. This is what we stand for, these are our priorities and our values, and what our communities needs now more than ever.

“A week in politics is a long time – we may need to get ready for a General Election sooner than we thought!”

“Please get in touch if you want to help us in this fight, and if there is anything you need our help on, at adam4somertonand frome@gmail.com or 07809 284817, via our website http://ldsomertonand frome.nationbuilder.com/, follow me on Twitter @cllradamboyden, or come along to one of our meetings and events to get involved or find out more.”

To keep the Tories out I may have no choice but to vote Lib dem… but I find Jo Swinson’s voting record extemely problematic. She supported austerity and many tory policies. how much can you dfeviate from the party line, and her vision which seem pro-europe tory….
