Writers flock to opening of Frome’s new writing centre

Bubbles and balloons greeted local writers at the launch of The Write Place at Black Swan Arts.

About 60 guests came to celebrate the opening of this creative centre, which is run by writers to enable writers to write and socialise together.

In her welcome speech, facilitator Kate McEwan explained how members of TheWriteDay, a monthly retreat for procrastinating writers, had clubbed together to rent two studios under the eaves of Black Swan, so that they could write together more often.

“Writing doesn’t have to be such a solitary occupation. Something magic happens when writers work together in silence – the words just flow. But now we’re lucky enough to have a second room where we can relax and chat when we’re not writing, and that’s just as important.”

Kate also thanked the Mayor of Frome, cllr Richard Ackroyd, and the Mayor’s Small Grant fund for helping to pay for new leaflets to spread the word about what The Write Place has to offer.

The Write Place is always open to new members who want to write regularly.  But they welcome visitors on an ad hoc basis, as well.  Fees are kept as low as possible, so that everyone can afford a place to write that is free from the distractions of home and work.
