Burnt-out cars a menace, says local Green Party

Green Party activists are warning that cars and vans left burnt out on the edge of Frome are becoming an increasing hazard. They say that over the last few months, there have been several instances now where vans have been set alight and left burnt out in an area between Dark Lane and Berkley Lane.

Green Party candidate for Market Ward, Louis Williams said, “I have reported each incident to the council and their local Conservative councillor and, after chasing up the council, they finally moved the vans on. I have not heard back from the councillor though.

“This is becoming dangerous to local wildlife and a hazard to cyclists. Already I have had three punctures in as many months from glass, nails and other parts left across the floor. These are taking too long to be collected and moved on.”

The Green Party’s leader on Mendip District Council, Shane Collins added, “Dead cars and vans have scrap value, it’s likely these burnt-out vans may well have been stolen and the pollution in the air is so toxic for people. The fly tipping, car pieces and fire damage is not acceptable for the local wildlife.”
