Frome Twinning Association welcomes first ‘twinning ambassador school’

Story posted on

As part of a new initiative to promote twinning between towns to children and families, Frome Twinning Association presented a certificate to the children and staff of Vallis First School to celebrate the school’s new status as a twinning ambassador school.

The twinning association aims to promote friendship between the town and its twin towns of Château-Gontier in France, Murrhardt in Germany and Rabka-Zdròj in Poland. Recognising that visits to the towns may not be possible for everyone, the association tries to bring a range of cultural activities to Frome, in particular to families and children.

Vallis First School will help to promote these activities and enjoy in-class and extra-curricular opportunities to understand the culture and traditions of the four towns. Mrs Pauley, headteacher of the school said, “Becoming a ‘twinning ambassador school’ will enable us to provide real experiences for our children in order to broaden their understanding of other cultures and countries and help them to develop their global citizenship knowledge and skills.”

Chair of the twinning association, Justin Worringham, who presented the certificate at an assembly said, “The twinning association is delighted to welcome this initiative by Vallis to promote the importance of friendship with our neighbours in Europe.”

The association’s next family activity, which will be open to all children in the town, will be the ‘Storming of the Town Hall’, inspired by Murrhardt’s carnival tradition. This takes place on 21st February during the half-term holiday and further details will be available soon.
