Public invited to share views on the regeneration of Saxonvale in Frome

THE Frome community is being invited to share their views on the future regeneration of the Saxonvale site in Frome this January.

Developer Acorn Property Group will be hosting a two-day event next week allowing the public to share their views and aspirations for the future of the former industrial site.

Acorn and Mendip District Council, the landowner, exchanged on a ‘sale and overage agreement’ which will see Acorn pursuing the planning process and working up an application with architects Nash Partnership.

Following the event on the 11th and 12th January at The Silk Mill in Frome, Acorn will work with the architects to draw up detailed plans, with a view to submitting a planning application in spring this year.

The Saxonvale site has laid derelict for 10 years, a key town centre site that sits adjacent to the River Frome and a short walk to the High Street. It was bought by Mendip District Council earlier in the year in order to facilitate regeneration.

Robin Squire, regional managing director at Acorn Property Group’s Bristol office said, “We are excited to be working on a project to bring regeneration to the area of Saxonvale in Frome, and provide a high-quality mixed-use for the town. Being mindful of the site’s history, the public consultation will be a great chance to hear from the community and discuss opportunities for the site.”

Cllr Philip Ham, Mendip District Council’s portfolio holder for transformation said, “As the landowner, the council is encouraging as many people as possible to take part in the consultation. The council has worked to create a high-level vision for the site and now urge the public to share their ideas either via these drop-in sessions in Frome, or by submitting their views via Acorn’s Saxonvale website. The council is keen to see Acorn carry out a development that Frome can be proud of.”

Event details: Friday 11th January 2-7pm and Saturday 12th January 10am-3pm at The Silk Mill, The Gallery, Merchants Barton, Frome, BA11 1PT.
