Funny Times at Merlin Theatre

Story posted on

In a concerted effort to put a gagging clause on Euro-gloom, the Merlin Theatre, Frome, is bringing guaranteed laughter and an uplifting cure for the winter blues to town, with an array of comedy in the coming months.

This season the theatre will be hosting comedians Jack Dee,  Alan Carr and Tony Law, with the jokes kicking off  this Friday 1st February with well-know, stand-up funny-lady Zoe Lyons.

Zoe Lyons, famed for her appearances on Mock The Week and her stand-up appearances on Live At The Apollo, has now also been named by the UK’s biggest live-entertainment guide, Ents24, as one of 2018’s hardest working comedians.  There is no questioning her ability to entertain an audience as, having trained first as an actress, Zoe has been a winner at the Edinburgh Fringe and joined Michael McIntyre on his roadshow, to name just a few of her literally hundreds of appearances.

It seems that Lyons has, what are known in the trade as,  ‘funny bones’ as she shows such humour in all that she does. Many will also recognise Zoe from her success on BBC’s Celebrity MasterChef where she, perhaps unfairly, was sent home not long after crafting her brilliant “two soups” dishes in honour of two other very well-known and hugely-loved comedians, Julie Walters and Victoria Wood.

Frome audiences can catch Zoe on her packed tour of her new live show, Entry Level Human, as she joins a growing band of very well respected stand-ups that The Merlin have been lucky enough to host recently.  Merlin director, Claudia Pepler explains, “Comedians of this calibre, with a fresh show on the road, are so in demand and so busy, it is something of an art in itself  to find a date where both they and the theatre are free at the same time.  We are so excited to have Zoe Lyons coming here,  particularly on a Friday night. We can’t wait. What a start to a weekend!”

The catchy title of Entry Level Human is a phrase Zoe coined after a meeting with an IT expert and that she has used to inspire this current show, exposing and identifying everyday idiots encountered in all our worlds, universally annoying and, in her hands, very amusing to observe.  Reviewed by online comedy experts Chortle, they tell  us this show is  “…just hit after hit after hit from a stand-up who’s very much operating at advanced level.”

For tickets to this “razor sharp” show at 7.45pm on 1st February, call The Merlin on 01373 465949 or book online at merlin theatre.co.uk
